If Not You, Who? Why Leaders Need to Go Big with Their Leadership Right Now.

One thing that disrupts my calm is when people accept leadership roles, and they do not follow through. They want to be a leader, they like the way it sounds, they like the privileges, they like the pay, yet they do not follow through on the responsibilities. And they may not even realise this is happening. That they are not showing leadership.

This approach does not help you.

It does not help your team.

It does not help your organisation.

I know there are many, many leaders who show up and contribute every day. Some have acknowledged leadership roles and titles; I take my hat off to you, and I recognise you and shower you with kudos. But there are still many people who do not emulate this, who do not embody this.

So I am throwing down the gauntlet to leaders because the world needs more leadership right now.

If you accept the perks and privileges of a leadership role, if you aspire to a leadership role, then do the work.

Leadership is not easy. If it was, everyone would do it.

It is incredibly rewarding and satisfying, and the contribution that you can make is enormous if you show up. And this is really what it comes down to. Show up.

Do the leadership walk. Do not just talk about it.

Knowing about leadership is not enough. Even doing leadership is not enough. You need to be a leader.

Embody it.

Embrace it.

Use all of your resources. Bring your whole self to the role of leading and leadership.

I challenge you to do this. To aspire.

Not to work long hours, not to be highly stressed, but to go big with your leadership, have big vision, make bold decisions, and take brave action that makes a difference and creates the future.

You cannot leave it up to everybody else.

Someone has to step up.

And if not you, then who?

Leadership is about responding to the needs of your community. True leaders rise when their community needs them.

So I challenge you to rise because your tribe, your community, needs you.

I’d love to know your thoughts.
